Grande Prairie Marching Band

First Practice of 2009 Announced

February 23rd, 2009

The first practice of the 2009 season is March 4 at the Composite High School band room at 7:00 pm. The practice on the 18th will be canceled due to parent teacher interviews.

This year as Mike Townsend is heading South for the rest of winter, Rod Vanstone will be stepping up to plate for the majority of practices and performances.

We are looking to build our numbers this year before our tour next year which is to be decided on March 25th at about 8:30 to decide the destination of our tour. At the AGM in November we had an interest to travel to Alaska in 2010, those plans will be updated, however, since then we have been asked to return to Potsdam, Germany for a WAMSB (World Association of Marching Show Bands) event and to Shanghai, China for the World Expo.

So, come join us on March 4 and bring a friend or two to join the fun.

Successful Completion of the 2008 Marching Season

October 28th, 2008

The Marching Band successfully completed the 2008 Marching Season and greatly enjoyed multiple local and international performances. The band performed locally at the Sexsmith Chautauqua Day parade. The end of June saw the marching band head off to China to participate in the International Marching Band Salute to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Upon our return we performed in Parades in Donnelly and Beverlodge as well as Grande Prairie’s 50th Anniversary Ticker Tape Parade and Grande Prairie’s Rememberance Day Celebration.
