History of the Grande Prairie Marching Band

The Grande Prairie Marching Band can trace it's roots as far back as 1916. A community band that has operated under the name of The Grande Prairie Band and was the starting point for the Composite High School Band and Orchestra.

The band has had many ups and downs throughout the years but under the consistent direction of Mike Townsend from 1971 - 2018 has been a staple in local parades and community events.

The Grande Prairie Marching Band is a non-profit, community band that is sponsored by the City of Grande Prairie. It is open to community members from all walks of life.
